Lights, camera, ACTION!
Have you ever dreamed of stardom?? I take it most of you have one time or another, either as a star hungry adolescent or you’re just simply still ‘chasing the dream’. Contrary to people’s belief, you don’t have to be a good actor to get on TV – the phrase ‘it’s not what you know, it’s who you know’ has never been so true in the TV/Film Industry.
I must admit that BIG Hollywood players like Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholsen etc. are exceptional to the phrase and posses an abnormal ability to act at a higher level than most actors half there age! But how do you get started? Well, there are alot of routes to choose from, most common being:
- spend thousands of £££’s going through school and receiving private tuition to ‘hone in on your talents’;
- join an amature dramatics group and prance around on stage a few times a year;
- ask uncle bob, the sound guy, to employ you to work with him for the next few years, getting paid nothing, but allowing yourself to build up a solid book of contacts;
- beg the guys at Universal Studios/Elstree Studios/Pinewood to let you on a production, or;
- become an tv film extra.
Firstly, I have already been through school and I haven’t got thousands of £££’s to spend on private tuition, I don’t like theatre, I don’t have an ‘uncle bob’ and begging the guys at any of the aformentioned studios will most undoubtedly result in a night’s stay at your local Police Station! So…the only option really is to become a tv film extra!
